Shoulder /Hip/ Knee Aspiration

Ishaan Ortho & Spine, we understand that joint pain can significantly impact your daily life. Our minimally invasive joint aspiration procedure offers a fast and efficient solution for diagnosing and treating pain in the shoulder, hip, and knee, allowing you to get back to your routine quickly.

What is Joint Aspiration?

Joint aspiration, also known as arthrocentesis, involves inserting a needle into a joint to remove fluid. This fluid is then analyzed to pinpoint the cause of your pain, inflammation, or infection. In some cases, the aspiration can also be therapeutic, removing excess fluid that contributes to stiffness and discomfort.

Benefits of Joint Aspiration at Ishaan Ortho & Spine:

  • Minimally Invasive: The procedure is quick and well-tolerated, minimizing discomfort.
  • Fast Diagnosis: Joint fluid analysis helps Dr. Subodh M Shetty accurately diagnose the cause of your pain.
  • Potential Therapeutic Effect: Removing excess fluid can alleviate pain and improve joint mobility.
  • Day Care Procedure: You can return home the same day after the aspiration.

What to Expect During Your Day Care Joint Aspiration:

  1. Consultation: Dr. Shetty will discuss your symptoms and determine if joint aspiration is the right approach for you.
  2. Preparation: The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis. You’ll be positioned comfortably on an X-ray table.
  3. Anesthesia: The area around the joint will be sterilized, and a local anesthetic numbs the injection site for minimal discomfort.
  4. Fluid Removal: Using ultrasound or fluoroscopy (live X-ray) for precise needle placement, Dr. Shetty will withdraw fluid from the joint.
  5. (Optional) Injection: In some cases, medication may be injected into the joint after fluid removal to reduce inflammation.
  6. Recovery: You’ll be monitored briefly before being discharged home with post-procedure instructions.

Day Care Recovery After Joint Aspiration:

  • You may experience mild soreness at the injection site, manageable with over-the-counter pain medication.
  • Most activities can be resumed the next day, but strenuous exercise may be restricted for a short period depending on the joint aspirated.
  • Dr. Shetty will provide specific instructions regarding rest, icing, and pain management.
